Ephesians 5:18
18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
This is a seemingly self-explanatory verse. It’s a verse that we as Christians can point to and have evidence of a direct commandment not to get wasted ect… But this verse is also a lot more. The sentence structure presents the two phrases (drunk on wine, filled with the spirit) as complete opposites. Instead of being drunk on wine, be drunk in the Spirit. Be so filled with Christ that it effects everything you do. Imagine the difference between someone “drunk” on wine, and someone sober. When you’re drunk you talk differently, act differently, and usually have a huge effect on those around you. Now take the differences in action, in speaking, take the HUGE affect that you have on others, and make it be IN THE SPIRIT. God will do some amazing things.
