We sever own our relationships.

31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Its easy to read this and feel a false sense of inflation. It makes us feel good to read that God is always with us and that NOTHING can keep his love from us. But then we take a second and think about how distant we all are or have been at one time or another and we are left to question how we became distant from the love that conquers all? The answer is simple and  definately evident in your life and mine. The times when we feel the farthest from God are the times when WE refuse him. I would argue that we are the only ones able to seperate us from Christs love. Of course God is always there for us, and at any moment we can run back into his arms. But while we are in sin we seperate ourselves from God and his goodness.

As we realize this we should look to draw close to God in each and every situation we find ourselves. Also, we should strive to be a friend like God is to us. Not letting anything come in between us and those we love on this earth. Using Christ as a model for how we aught to live our lives.
